Recipe-Banana Bars

This recipe is  my mother-in-law's.  These banana bars were a staple in my husband's home when he was growing up.  They are quick and easy.  There are always too ripe bananas around and these bars are yummy!

Banana Bars

1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 1/2 c. sugar
2-3 ripe mashed bananas
2 eggs
3/4 c. sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 c. flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Cream buter and sugar, add eggs and sour cream.
Add mashed bananas.
Add vanilla, flour, salt and baking soda.

Lightly grease a cookie sheet( with sides).
Pour batter into pan.

Bake at 350 degress
approximately 30 min.
ovens vary.  I start checking at 20 mins.

You may eat them plain or frost them,
Cut into bars when cooled.

I used agave and white granulated sugar

Add in the eggs and mix until creamy

Mash the ripe bananas in a separate bowl.
try not to leave big chunks.

Add in sour cream (I used light) and mashed bananas.

Next the dry ingredients.

But sure you are using baking SODA not baking powder.
The soda comes with the orange label.

Spread evenly onto a cookie sheet.  A 9 x 13 pan would be okay too.
You would need to bake a little longer.

Bake until golden brown.

Ready to eat!

Enjoy!

Wreaths

Last weekend I decided I wanted to do something different-craft wise.  So I made coffee filter wreaths.  I LOVE to dye things, so this was a perfect craft for me.

I decided to use the Rit dyes I already had mixed up.  These were mauves and browns.

Then I made one in my husband's school colors.  Burgundy and gray, added a bow.

Also did one in yellow, oranges and red.

This one does not look as "fallish" as I would like.

These are a lot of fun to make!

Autumn transformation

Autumn/fall is my favorite time of year.  I grew up in Michigan where there are a definite change of seasons.  There is just something in the air in the fall, that unless you have experienced it, it is hard to describe.

I have a lot of fall decorations.  I get them out in September and leave them out until after Thanksgiving.  I could not decide this year if I wanted to get them out for two reasons.  One that we have 2 extra cats now and this fall season is sad for me, since we are coming up on one year since my dad passed away.

But, I decided to go ahead, decorate a little differently than I normally would do it.

This is my shelf that I decorate for the different seasons.  ( was just all in pink)
I started with a fabric scrap, with pumpkins and sheer orange fabric over that.
This is my base.

I decided I would do a cat theme.  I moved these around until I was pleased with the arrangement.
I then added in leaves and flowers.

These two were purchased last year at Hobby Lobby.  Too cute!

The kitty on the right was purchased at Jo-ann.
The center cone was from a flea market in Michigan-one of my favorite kitties!

I normally make an arrangement of these things at the base of this chiffarobe.  But because of the little "hay bale" and the cats, I put it on top.  I then added lights of orange, white, purple and a multi strand of orange, green & purple.  Leaves are then added in EVERYWHERE!

This scarecrow was given to me over 10 years ago.
I tucked him in among the flowers, leaves and lights.

I am very pleased with the way Autumn has come
to my Florida home!

Just another week of . . .Life

As I have said before, if I go too long to write a post, then I procrastinate even more.
Last night we got our daughter off to London and Amsterdam for 9 days.  We are in charge of the cats, of course, since they now live with us! Still waiting and hoping the three will learn to like(tolerate) each other!

I was just a lazy bum over the long weekend.  I did a little crafting and a lot of just sitting around.  Which I have decided is OK.  I am one who feels I should not waste time sitting around when there are SO many things that really need to be done around here!

My Mom's brother passed away last Thursday.  It has been a very tough 10 months for her.  We lost my Dad Oct 30.  About 4 months ago my Dad's sister passed, July 31 my Mom's oldest sister passed and then her brother Aug 30.  I feel so bad that I am not up there to be more support to her.  I call almost every day to hear about her day, asking what she is eating, how she is feeling, etc.  I will be be going to see her in about a month.

These are the ties that I have made.  I have most of them listed in my etsy shop.
They are fun and quick to make!
